Mnesithea granularis is a plant of Indian origin having tremendous therapeutic potential but is not fully utilized. It is a highly valued plant and has an impressive range of medicinal uses. The present study primarily aims to carry out a preliminary phytochemical screening of different extracts and fractions of Mnesithea granularis and to perform thin layer chromatography (TLC) profiling of hydroalcoholic extract and different fractions of hydroalcoholic extract of Mnesithea granularis. Phytochemical analysis was performed by various qualitative methods and TLC profiling was carried out using various solvent systems of varying polarity. Qualitative phytochemical analysis reflects the presence of carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, anthracene derivatives, cardiac glycosides, flavonoids, tannins, saponins and terpenoids. TLC profiling of Mnesithea granularis was constituted different coloured phytochemical compounds with different Rf values. The present study provides evidence that solvent extract of Mnesithea granularis contains medicinally important bioactive compounds and this justifies the use of plant as traditional medicine for treatment of various diseases.
